Why do you charge for damp surveys?
It's a fair question, because plenty of companies will survey your home for free. The catch is in how those free surveys are paid for: they're funded by the remedial works they lead to. A surveyor whose employer only earns money if you buy a damp proof course has a powerful incentive to find you a damp proof course.
What your fee actually buys
- Expert inspection: a qualified specialist using calibrated moisture meters and professional instruments, not a salesperson with a checklist
- Time and care: every potential cause is assessed, from rising damp, penetrating damp, condensation, plumbing leaks, and building defects
- A comprehensive written report: 15–25 pages with photos, readings, diagnosis, and prioritised recommendations, delivered in 2–3 working days
- Genuine independence: we have no financial stake in what the diagnosis turns out to be
The economics of honest advice
Misdiagnosed damp is one of the most expensive mistakes a property owner can make. Treating condensation as rising damp means paying for an injected DPC that solves nothing, while the real cause (ventilation, heating patterns, or a cold bridge) carries on producing mould. A £300 independent survey routinely saves owners thousands in unnecessary treatment, and gives buyers the evidence to renegotiate far more than the fee.
Our residential damp survey is a flat £300 inc VAT, with no hidden costs, no obligation to use anyone in particular for any works, and a report you can hand straight to a solicitor, lender, or contractor.
